A sound NU NFE lead with its
access to Stealth Rock. Although Turtwig's unfortunate Bug weakness
hinders it against bulky Bug-types such as and Metapod, Silcoon and
Cascoon, Leech Seed can cripple them, giving you an easier time
attacking them with physical attacks if that is all one has for
options. Although Grass is a poor attacking type in NU NFE, it does get
STAB, and is Turtwig's best option against Spheal, Squirtle and Piplup,
who can all threaten with Ice attacks, while Body Slam hits all NUs for
neutral damage.

This is a more utility-oriented
Turtwig, and serves as a very potent screen-setter. Stealth Rock
provides an entry hazard, as Turtwig is one of the few NUs that get it.
Although there aren't many set-uppers in NU NFE that can abuse the
screens, it provides a good overall defensive strategy to aid sweepers
in attacking the foe, and Turtwig's defenses make getting both screens
up relatively easy if it is not met with a super-effective STAB Ice
Beam or Flamethrower.
100 Sp Atk EVs makes Leaf Storm a guaranteed OHKO against the standard
bulky Squirtle, and provides a 25% chance of OHKO'ing a max Sp Def
Squirtle, and even a non-OHKO can be finished off with an additional
Leaf Storm. It is a OHKO on any Spheal who isn't running 252 / 96 with
a +Sp Def Nature after factoring in Stealth Rock damage, although it
lands a 2HKO on a standard Piplup. The rest of the EVs are delegated to
defenses to aid Turtwig in setting up Light Screen and Reflect.

Arguably the best utility user in
NU NFE with its respectable defenses and access to Stealth Rock,
Turtwig provides a great switch-out from Cyndaquil or Torchic when
faced by the likes of Squirtle and Piplup, as well as Ground attacks
from Tyrogue. In UU, Poliwag is a good teammate for Turtwig, as dual
screens aid Poliwag in setting up Belly Drum, and is a useful
switch-out from Fire and Ice attacks. The screen set, of course, works best with setup attackers,
in particular Feebas. SubPetaya sets such as with Cyndaquil and Piplup also work very well thanks to the synergy
provided with Turtwig and the opportunity to set dual screens up.

Counters

Zubat is neutral to Body Slam and
most of Turtwig's other attacks, and can hit with a STAB Sludge Bomb or
Air Slash, or Heat Wave. Starly and Pidgey don't enjoy Body Slam's
paralysis chance, but can hit Turtwig with Brave Bird.
