Mantyke
makes a decent sweeper paired with Life Orb, and with its heresy
Special Defense and Water Absorb, as well as immunity to Ground
attacks, Mantyke can usually find an easy way to switch in, and use
Agility, and then sweep with Life Orb boosting your attacks. This set
has problems with priority attackers, however. And since most priority
attacks are physical, they prey on Mantyke's low Defense stat, so
having a physical wall to switch out to would be useful in some cases.
The Speed EVs allow you to outspeed anything slower than max Speed
Scarf Gabite, while allowing you to outspeed max Speed Rhydon, Gloom
and Porygon, even without Agility. An odd HP stat will give Mantyke 11
uses of Life Orb, as well as allowing it to switch into Stealth Rock 5
times before being KO'ed. It is recommended to stick to these Speed EVs
to allow Mantyke to outspeed the aformentioned Pokemon, since Gloom can
cause problems with any kind of powder, and Porygon can prey on
Mantyke's x4 weakness to Electric attacks and always KO with a
Thunderbolt, even with a Timid Nature.

Although
more risky, considering Croagunks who can abuse the rain with Dry Skin,
and other Swift Swimmers threatening to outspeed you (such as Lombre,
Buizel and Finneon), this Mantyke poses a more immediate threat, since
it gets the same Speed boost as Agility after Rain Dance, but its
mediocre Special Attack is also boosted in the rain, and coupled with
Life Orb, it can do major damage with Water attacks to those who don't
resist it. The choice of Surf and Hydro Pump brings the
ever-controversial decision of accuracy over power, so the decision is
mainly up to
preference.
Since the setup procedure and benefits are the same as with the Agility
set, the same EVs will give you the best use of the rain when you set
it up. The odd-numbered HP stat, again, helps with Stealth Rock damage
and the accumulative Life Orb damage.

Mantyke
is a perfect asset to any Rain Dance team that doesn't have a huge
Electric weakness. Swift Swim is one of the most assetable abilities
that can be utilized when Rain Dance is set up. What sets Mantyke apart
from other Rain Dance abusers is that it can take a good deal of
Special attacks, something that Buizel and Seadra cannot do.
However, Mantyke takes 4x damage from Electric attacks, and while its
Special Defense is impressive, it cannot take the majority of STAB Thunderbolts.
Thunderpunch in itself usually means the end of Mantyke. Thus, Ground
teammates can serve Mantyke well. Among these is Diglett, who can
switch into an Electric attack, trap the threat (no NFE Electric-types
have resistances to Ground), and KO it with a powerful Earthquake.
Diglett can also switch out to Mantyke if faced with a Water-type
attack, namely Aqua Jet, which attempts to bypass its Speed. Trapinch
works in a similar way, although the Speed drop can be dangerous if the
opponent packs a super-effective move. Rhydon also makes a very good
teammate for Mantyke. It has a very respectable Attack stat that can
back-up Mantyke when faced
with a Special wall, is immune to Electric attacks, and resistant to
Rock.

With
a BoltBeam combination and access to a STAB Surf or Hydro Pump, few
Pokemon can effectively counter Mantyke after it gets a Speed boost.
Chinchou is one of the best counters for Mantyke. It takes little
damage from every attack it possesses, and can threaten with a STAB
Thunderbolt. Electabuzz can outspeed Mantyke before Swift Swim is
activated, and almost always OHKO with Thunderpunch. Croagunk with Dry
Skin is immune to Water attacks, and can also hit with Thunderpunch,
while being able to survive Mantyke's Ice Beam. Marshtomp is only
shaken by Rain Dance-boosted Surfs, and can hit Mantyke back with Ice
Punch for serious damage.
